Sara Hughes

Sara Hughes was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1971 and is currently living in New Zealand. She studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland from 1989-1991 after living in Asia and Europe for seven years. In 1999, Hughes returned to New Zealand to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She went on to gain a Masters in Fine Arts with First Class Honours at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001.
Sara Hughes’ work is held in public and private collections in New Zealand and Australia. She has completed several large commissions including Soft-ware for the University of Auckland, Love Me Tender for The Dunedin Public Art Gallery, and Garden for Joseph for the Darling Island Apartments, Sydney. She was awarded the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship at Otago University in 2003. Sara is currently undertaking the 2008/09 Creative New Zealand Berlin Visual Artists Residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.
