Regan Tamanui

Regan Tamanui is a young artist bringing street-protest to a new and appreciative gallery audience. He began by stencilling images of social and political dissent in public places around Melbourne, part of an underground network of inner-urban guerrillas. His work has not lost that raw edge of biting satire, which mocks the pretensions of advertising and the media while undermining structures of power. The energy, directness and humour of his work is perfectly complemented by the unexpected subtlety and complexity of its presentation.
Although self-taught, Regan Tamanui has held several successful solo exhibitions in Melbourne, and has been included in group shows throughout Australia and in Europe. In 2008 his work was included in the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art major exhibition - Optimism.
