Megan Walch

The sheer beauty of Megan Walch’s lush, succulent fantasy worlds may blind us, at first, to their vaguely sinister undertones. At once intensely erotic, playful and potentially dangerous, her hallucinogenic abstractions draw from television, science-fiction, popular decoration and computer graphics, adding an edge of incisive social satire. A series of works completed in Thailand recently explores the slippages that cultural borrowings cause: the mistakes, misattributions and mis-understandings that lead to new realities.
Having graduated from the Tasmanian School of Art in 1989, Megan was awarded a Samstag Scholarship to complete a Masters Degree in San Francisco and Maine. She has travelled widely, including residencies in Asia with the Australia Council and Asialink. She now lives in Hobart.
