Craig Easton

Melbourne based painter Craig Easton questions the differing ideals of Formal Abstraction, Pop Art, Minimalism and modern installation practice, to find a place where these historical movements collide.
Easton’s stark geometric forms echo the hard edges of architecture, the moody shapes of cinematic spaces and most recently, the abstracted nature of psychological states. Heavy hues of black, red and orange dominate Easton’s current palette and add intense depth to the slick, contrasting surfaces of matte paint and high gloss enamel.
Originally from Dunedin, New Zealand, Easton has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions throughout Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and New Zealand. He currently lectures on Abstraction at RMIT.
