Christopher Langton

Christopher Langton’s joyful, cheeky, yet subtly subversive constructions both celebrate and mock contemporary consumerism.
He takes the trivial accompaniments of contemporary urban life - the cheap souvenirs, toys and party props - then accentuates their delightful absurdity. Langton’s characteristic use of plastics inflated with air underline the ephemerality of the things we surround ourselves with. Yet he skillfully avoids moral judgements, opting instead to celebrate their sensousness and fun.
Christopher Langton came to Melbourne from South Africa and has held solo exhibitions through out Australia since 1992. He has also exhibited in Europe, Asia, New Zealand and South America. In 2001 he was awarded an Australia Council residency in New York.
