James Newitt shortlisted for New Social Commentary ‘08
James Newitt has been chosen for the shortlist for the New Social Commentary 08 + $15,000 FJ Foundation Acquisitive Prize at the Warrnambool Art Gallery.
The guest judge Christine Morrow, Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, selected 26 artists from the 160 entries. The works address and/or question human relationships, national cultural identity, social isolation and social dynamics.
The exhibition runs from 6 September until 2 November 2008. The official opening and announcement of the $15,000 FJ Foundation Acquisitive Prize will be held on Saturday 20 September.

Adam Geczy represented in ‘Video Logic’ at the MCA
Adam Geczy’s work Thoughts of Home 2008, is among the works in the new exhibition Video Logic at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
The exhibition, curated by Russell Storer, also features Denis Beaubois, Philip Brophy, John Conomos, John Gillies and Eugenia Raskopoulos. It opens 19 August and runs until 2 November 2008.
In the essay Music+Video=I See Music which Adam has contributed to the catalogue (which also features his work on the cover), he discusses the concordance between music and video in relation to his own and other works. On Sunday 23 August at 12:30 Adam is giving an artist’s talk about his works.

Anthony Lister - what a wonderful life - an update
Anthony is busy making new paintings and sculptures for upcoming shows in Melbourne and Miami.
He is in London to start setting up his show there, then back to New York for the Deitch Art Parade.
The London exhibition, WK - Lister, a collaboration between Anthony Lister and WK Interact, is opening on 21 August at Elms Lester Painting Rooms. There is also a Book Launch and signing on 23 August.
A recent interview with Anthony can be found at myartspace, and an art forum has recently been created at anthonylister.proboards76.

No commentsSara Hughes wins Berlin Residency
Congratulations to Sara Hughes who has been selected as the recipient of the 2008/09 Creative New Zealand Berlin Visual Artists Residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin.
The biennial 12-month residency provides an opportunity for visual artists to work on their project, gain professional development, build international networks and generally increase awareness of New Zealand visual arts. Sara plans to work on a new body of work with its theme the use of images of spectacle and national identity during the Beijing and Berlin Olympics.

Matt Coyle’s Worry Doll series acquired by GoMA
The Queensland Art Gallery have acquired a full set of Matt Coyle’s Worry Doll prints for their growing Australian print collection. Matt’s prints were formulated as a graphic novel by the same title earlier last year.
All 33 prints will be part of the recent acquisitions exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art from 30 August until the mid-January 2009.
